PENNSYLVANIA PART ONE

  • Mar. 20th, 2011 at 5:38 PM
notemily: Photo of me, a white girl in her mid-20s, wearing glasses, smiling, looking up and to the right (Default)
So I went to Pennsylvania! And there were many photos taken. Click to embiggen.

First day we went to a restaurant called O'Charley's that had delicious chicken fingers:

Alan at O'Charley's

This is Alan, he is my best friend.

Trish at O'Charley's

This is Trish, she is Alan's girlfriend.

From the Wisconsin solidarity rally in Erie:

A mass of people on the street holding flags and signs. I was surprised at the turnout! And kind of touched. You all like us and want us to be happy? *sniff*

Close-up of some signs: "STOP THE WAR ON WORKERS!!!" and "SOLIDARITY" with two hands clasped. There is also someone wearing a cheesehead hat.

Me at the protest (taken by Trish).

union protesters

Union protesters carrying a large sign that says LABORERS' LOCAL - 603 - SKILLED TRADE UNION (also taken by Trish).

A dude in a hoodie holding a hand-drawn sign that says "SOLIDARITY WITH WISCONSIN!" and giving a thumbs-up.

Next, we have some photos from the bookstore. The Borders in Erie was having a going-out-of-business sale. I got this book for $11, which isn't the best deal, but whatever. I also snapped some pictures of book covers I found amusing.

For example, the obviously Twilight-inspired:

Twilight-inspired books

Wuthering Bites by Sarah Gray. The cover is black with a large red heart-shaped leaf dripping what appears to be blood, and the tagline reads Heathcliff's love could save her. His thirst could kill her. Lololol really.

Next, the slightly less-obviously Twilight-inspired:

Twilight-inspired books

Jane and the Damned by Janet Mullany. Cover is pink, with a black silhouette of a woman, presumably Jane Austen, who has one white fang. Tagline reads in a gothic font: It's more than her wit that's biting. I'm sick of everything having to be supernatural these days, but I do like this cover.

I just like this one's title:

LET'S DRAW HAPPY PEOPLE

Illustration School: Let's Draw Happy People by Sachiko Umoto. Cover is white with several drawings of happy people around the edge. Happy people! LET US DRAW THEM.

I love when they try to update classics with teen-friendly covers:

RAWK STAR HAMLET

Hamlet by William Shakespeare. Cover is bright blue with a teenage dude wearing a gold-lined jacket and holding a skull, with a big yellow paint-splatter around the title. RAWK STAR HAMLET.

And finally, this cover might be Twilight-inspired, or it might just draw from the same inspiration as the original Twilight cover (Eve and the apple):

Twilight-inspired cover

Brave Girl Eating: A Family's Struggle with Anorexia by Harriet Brown. Cover shows a presumably female body from the waist to the knees. Her hands are held in front of her, holding a red apple. (The original Twilight cover also features hands holding a red apple.)

From the day I was sick:

sick me :(

Me in Alan and Trish's bed, with a thermometer in my mouth and a heating pad (made out of a sock) on my head, looking sad and clutching Alan's stuffed panda, Peluchin. Alan always jokes that when I'm sick he pictures me with a thermometer and a hot water bottle on my head, so we decided to document an actual instance.

sleepy Trish

This is a picture of a sleepy Trish that I quite like. She's a cutie.

WAKE UP ALAN IT IS TIME TO GO TO PITTSBURGH FOR DANCING TIEMS

all of us in the van on the way to Pittsburgh

Everyone in Trish's monster van, on the way to Pittsburgh for the Steel City Blues dance weekend. The random people are some of Trish and Alan's friends. In the back: Cody and Rich; in the middle: Michelle and me. Trish and Alan are up front.

"be well"

Trish holding up a bolster pillow. The hotel had pillows that said "Be Well" on them. It was a nice hotel, but the service was awful. (The Wyndham University Place Pittsburgh, for the curious.) Every time we asked for something, they'd say "sure, we'll bring that right up to you" and then it would never appear.

view from hotel window

View of Pittsburgh from the hotel window. I liked the hills everywhere in Pittsburgh, and how the houses are stacked all over them. They look like Monopoly houses from far away.

statue at the hotel

Angel statue in the hotel lobby. DON'T BLINK, YOU GUYS. BLINK AND YOU'RE DEAD.

Anyway, there will be pictures of ~actual dancing~ in the next post! This one seems long enough.
